2018 MBIE Awards

EDNZ is soon to host its second annual awards for excellence.

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment Awards will be presented as part of the 2018 Annual Conference Gala Dinner to be held on the 18 October, 2018 in the beautiful Bay of Islands.  Sponsored by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, the Awards will celebrate and promote best practice economic development across New Zealand whilst providing for recognition of individuals and organisations.  The winning nominations will be promoted in both national and regional media.

Nominations can be made by you or your organisation;

a) to celebrate the achievements of other individuals or organisations, or

b) to celebrate the achievements of yourself or your organisation.

The Awards will celebrate best practice throughout New Zealand across the following economic development activities:

  • Integrated, strategic planning
  • Promotion of Innovation
  • Collaboration with Business, Iwi, Community
  • Inward investment attraction
  • Sustainable Development
  • Primary research that contributes to best practice

There will be also be a premier best practice award.  The premier award will be selected by the Awards Committee from the winning nominations of the six best practice awards highlighted above.  There is therefore no nomination process for the Premier BP award.

Distinguished Service AwardNominations for the Distinguished Service Award are also welcomed.  The DSA recognises the contribution of individuals to:
  • the image and practice of economic development
  • research that has advanced the theory or practice of economic development in NZ
  • the advance of EDNZ and national or international recognition of the economic development profession within NZ

Honorary Membership

Last but not least, nominations are called for the title of Honorary Member.

  • This is an award that recognises an individual member of EDNZ (or its forerunner EDANZ)
  • The individual will be a long serving member of EDNZ or its forerunner (EDANZ)  who is either retiring or leaving the profession.
  • During the immediate preceding 10 years the candidate’s principal occupation shall have been in the economic development profession, of which at least 5 years shall have been in a supervisory capacity whereby the candidate was responsible for work undertaken by others.
  • The candidate will have rendered conspicuous service to the profession. Such service may include involvement with EDNZ (or its forerunner), contributions to economic development education, promotion of the profession to the wider community, including by the presentation of papers or the preparation of publications, or representation of the profession in Government, non-Government, or community bodies or forums.Benefits of being an Honorary member

  • Membership subscription will be free for the duration of the recipients life
  • Recognition on the Economic Development NZ website as an Honorary member
  • Receipt of both an Award and a certificate
  • The successful candidate will enjoy the following post nominals - "Hon. EDNZ" for life

Who can nominate a candidate for Honorary Membership?

a) nominations can be made by two or more members of the Board, or

b) by two individual members of EDNZ with over 10 years membership (this obviously includes membership of the EDANZ)
